It is important for our civilian community to work with our local military leadership to ensure our national security capabilities are not impacted by residential and commercial development activities close to military installations.

The proposed annexation of approximately 1,900 acres known as Karman Line raises significant questions about water supply, utility costs, emergency services, and growth planning. Before you vote, here are four important issues to consider.

The Karman Line annexation, a 1,900-acre development in Colorado Springs, adds a 1,672 acre-foot water deficit—roughly 545 million gallons—to the city’s already strained 34,000 acre-foot shortfall for existing build-out, projected to hit by 2070.

Schriever SFB says, "Residential growth could also occur on base if missions expand." Military families in the ranks of E-1 through E-4 do need housing. However, housing units built in the Karman Line Development will have a starting price tag of $440K, so again, Karman Line Development is not the answer.
